Following my enquiry posted to 030614 MMDigest, I thought you would
like to know what little information I have found regarding Mr. A.H.
Grunert and his piano factory in Johanngeorgenstadt, Germany.
I wrote to the Mayor's office in Johanngeorgenstadt, and received
this wonderful old headed notepaper from the Grunert factory. If you
enlarge the image you will see, as well as the interesting drawing and
text, it's dated 1918. Obviously paper records are kept for a long
time at this mayor's office!
I was told that Mr. Grunert, after selling his factory to Hupfeld in
1920, continued to work as a director in the firm. He also was an
adviser and constructor for the Roenisch firm in Dresden. Roenisch
was also bought by Hupfeld, but in 1918.

[ The historical annotation says that the Johanngeorgenstadt branch of
[ the joint-stock company (Aktiengesellschaft), comprised of Hupfeld
[ and Gebr. Zimmermann, was established by Alfred Grunert in 1897.
[ The factory, located in the Lehmer Bottom district of Liepzig,
[ initially manufactured smaller musical and stringed instruments.
[ In 1911, "after perfecting modern construction techniques, the firm
[ pursued exclusively the construction of first-class vertical and
[ grand pianos."
[
[ Johanngeorgenstadt lies in the Erzgebirge region of Saxony, and
[ continues to preserve the regions music traditions. -- Robbie
