Now available to all previous purchasers:
I am pleased to report that a goodly quantity of the English
translation of the book, "Im Aufnahmesalon Hupfeld - Anno 1910,"
which was mentioned by Robbie in 030813 MMDigest, has finally
arrived in Cleveland, and copies are available to all who have
previously purchased the book.
The Reproducing Piano Roll Foundation underwrote the work, beginning
now nearly two years ago, and is pleased to offer the result at no
charge to anyone in the continental U.S. Outside, you can do one of
two things: solicit a copy from the University in Leipzig for $2.50
plus postage or do the same for us.
A small quantity of the book has also been ordered, and I may be able
to satisfy the request for a copy at a cost of $29.95, which is $24.95
plus postage, again in this country [USA]. Please send an e-mail
request and I'll try to accommodate. I know you will be pleased to
get this vital information, as the original German is daunting, except
to a native, and the reworking has had the approval on the highest
level of those who contributed information to it. If you have already
written to request (and several have), I am now in the process of
filling those orders.
I need scarcely add the conviction (but here it is) that the book
should be part of the library of every serious collector. The black
and white photograph reproductions are stunning, and it is enlightening
to put a face to the name of many of the artists we've come to know and
cherish. Also, the detail of the articles is most valuable, and will
provide answers to many as to the methods and modes of the manufacturer
(Hupfeld). All in all, it is a considerable contribution to the lore
of the reproducing piano and its roll recordings.
Best to all,
Albert M. Petrak, Founder
The Reproducing Piano Roll Foundation
