Dear MMD'ers, I have recently taken over from Kevin McElhone as
Archivist of the MBSGB. My first query was from someone trying to
restore a Type 45D 15.75" table Polyphon, as illustrated on Page 154
of Ord-Hume's book "Clockwork Music".
The problem he has is that the decorative marquetry panel let into the
top of the lid (depicting roses) has some sections of veneer missing.
He has asked for a picture (ideally colour) of a 'good' example so he
can get the veneer replaced.
Despite the extensive library of books and publications from various
societies, in the archive, I have been unable to find a decent close-up
of this particular picture. It is of large roses within a banded
border and some of the branches go through the border to the surround.
One of our members supplied a picture from a 15.5" Polyphon, but it is
a different picture.
So, if you have a 15.75" Polyphon with roses on the lid and in good
condition, could you provide a picture of the panel (preferably
digital, by e-mail) which I will pass on to my 'customer', keeping
a copy for our archives (if you don't object!). You can e-mail direct
to me at my address following.
Thanks in anticipation.
