Sterling Miniature Player Piano
By John McClure
Over the past weekend I came across an unusual miniature player
piano offered at a sale that I would like some help in identifying.
The case seems factory painted green and gold details, with the stencil
"Sterling". The piano has a shortened keyboard about like an organ
manual. It almost looks like a toy except for the full size keys.
The spool frame is missing above the keyboard (in the usual space
for an upright player) but below the keyboard is what seems a serious
standard-size rotary pump and motor for a reproducing piano.
I did not have the opportunity to do much more looking around but my
curiosity increased after I left the sale. Does anyone know what this
is (or was) and if the spool frame is obtainable and if perhaps the
pneumatic stack could be under the keybed. Any ideas of value?
Thanks for the help.
