Dissolving Epoxy
By Frank Metzger

RE: Barrel Organ Pipes Secured With Epoxy

There is a product called "Attack" which is a good solvent for hardened
epoxies: http://www.hisglassworks.com/pages/attack.html

Using modeling clay or florist's clay or a similar substance, make
a dam around each organ pipe foot and, using an eye dropper, place
a few drops of "Attack" on the epoxy band. After half an hour gently
tap or vibrate the pipe (vibration works very well if you can figure
out how to do it. I use a modified vibrating engraving tool) until
the epoxy loosens enough to allow the pipe to be pulled out.

Do not try to dissolve all of the epoxy -- just enough to pull out
the pipe. The remains of the epoxy can be scraped away afterwards.
Acetone will neutralize "Attack" after use.

Please Note: "Attack" is a volatile liquid which must be used in a well
ventilated space. Wear safety glasses and gloves and avoid exposure to
the vapor or to the liquid on the skin.

Acetone is volatile also and is highly flammable. Use extreme caution.
Do not use acetone near an open flame (a gas hot water heater, for
example) even if that flame is many feet away!
