Prospect Park Carousel Organ
By Michael McNamara
I visited Prospect Park this Saturday and was very impressed with the
work that Mr. Rutoskey did to the organ. He hasn't tuned it yet (he
is going to do it within the next few weeks) but it already sounds
better than it did before the roll frame went out.
The bass drum was also playing very strongly (it had been playing
lightly for quite a while. I can't wait to hear it after it is tuned
(if it sounds great now, I could only imagine how nice it will sound
after Mr. Rutoskey tunes it).
Thanks to Mr. Rutoskey and everyone who helped me -- Richard Winn and
Margaret Ring (the head of the Carousel concession, who really missed
the organ during the time that it wasn't working) and Lucio Shiavone
(the operator of the carousel) -- to get the organ playing again.
