Mike Walter posted a message in 980724 MMDigest in reply to D. L.
Bullock concerning a politically incorrect piano roll with the title
of "Windle Special Word Roll", produced by a composer named Harry F.
Windle of Kansas City, Missouri.
I have just run across a piece of sheet music written and published by
Harry F. Windle in 1924 with words by Noah F. Tillery. The title is
"Our Mother's (sic) of Liberty", dedicated to the Woman (sic) of the
Ku-Klux-Klan! On the back of the sheet music are samples of two more
of their "hits" from 1923 with the titles of "Uncle Sammy's Melting
Pot" and "The Wreckers" -- not enough words in the samples to tell
how p. i. they are. The Windle Special Word Roll is advertised for
$1.00.
Has anyone heard of these guys or any of these so-called "songs"?
I'm curious about them and their "careers".
Thanks!
