Seek Parts for Symphonion Music Box
By Ray Field

-- non-subscriber, please reply to sender and MMD --

On my workbench is a Symphonion music box that is incomplete. The
music box plays 8.25-inch diameter discs, 0.012 inch thick (thin?).
The serial number stamped on one of the star wheel frames is 362283.

The spring and winding mechanism is present but not the Geneva wheel on
the spring drum; also missing is the speed regulator/control mechanism.
Does any one know of a source for these parts, drawings or information
that will help rebuild to an operating condition?

The discs are held on the drive shaft by a long shaft at right angles
to the drive shaft and kept in contact with the drive shaft by four
rollers. Situated at right angles to the long shaft and touching near
the underside of the disc rim are two rollers that push the edge of the
disc upwards about 0.25 inches. These two rollers are mounted on brass
brackets screwed to the sound board where the mechanism is mounted.
Is this amount of flex in the disc normal?

Any information will be appreciated.
