Record Price Paid for Concert Roller Organ
By Todd Augsburger
Having been out of town during the past week, it was quite interesting
to find the conversation on the fantastic price paid for a Concert
Roller Organ. Of course, since I am very interested in collecting
and documenting these instruments, I've paid $1000.00 for very unique
instruments. But this high price for a rather common instrument is
quite a surprise. All I can say is that I hope the new owner values
the instrument and will receive great pleasure in it -- and perhaps
they will!
But I ask a related question: When I recently published my "Roller
Organs" book (see http://www.rollerorgans.com/Roller_Organs_advert.htm)
I purposely omitted any "Price Guide" from it. One of the reasons is
that there is such a wide range of prices paid. (For example, I've
purchased a Concert Roller Organ for as _low_ as $150.00 in recent
years.)
Would a price guide have helped these buyers in any way? Or do you
all even find price guides useful? My personal experience has been
that there are too many unique variables, and therefor little value
in a "guide".
