Alvin Moersfelder, long term MBSI member and expert mechanical
instrument restorer, died May 18 at his home of 50 years in
Franklin, Wisconsin. Although now 81, Alvin was regularly seen at
the Union, Illinois, Music Box & Phonograph show with his wife Gladie,
where he was always willing to strike up a conversation or display
his several instruments. He will be missed greatly.
In earlier years, Alvin was known for the excellent work he did
restoring reed organs, but in the few recent years since I met him,
he was best known for his repair and restoration of organettes,
especially Roller (Cob) Organs.
Alvin was one of the few dealers whom I knew that always seemed to have
a variety of instruments available which included rarer instruments,
such as the Grand Roller Organ, and of course always in perfect
condition. I'm sure that all who knew Alvin will find him sadly
missed, but will be eternally grateful for the joy and enthusiasm
he brought.
