Why all the "negative" discussion about ROMFI? It would seem to
me that we (MMD participants) would applaud any effort to collect
information for public display. Sure, their goal may be overly
ambitious, but is that so bad? After all, ROMFI has a stated purpose,
they have responded openly to our questions, it's a group effort,
they have shown a particular interest in mechanical music, they are
personally willing to put in much effort (scanning documents, analyzing
data, etc.), there is a secure system for submissions, and item
ownership can be tracked without public access.
After all, my _own_ web site cannot stand up to such scrutiny! I offer
no public statement, no proof of identity (am I really a scammer from
Nigeria?), there is no non-disclosure contract when you give me your
email address, I operate with a "for profit" status, there is no board
of directors, and I've made no arrangements for the information
collected when I die. Why have MMD members so graciously supported me?
ROMFI has sought (and depends on) public support, and I for one will be
happy to participate.
