I recently bought John Miller's piano roll labeling program and have
been having a good time adding new labels to the other end of piano
roll boxes because of fading or other deterioration brought on by time.
Ed Sprankle has helped me with a few items and Robbie has sent me
a list of several sheet music URLs. I have put "They All Played
Ragtime", "That American Rag", "Rags and Ragtime" and of course the
Billings volumes on QRS to good use as I make new labels.
One of the most difficult parts is getting serial numbers of original
rolls that were issued by Collectors' Classics, Golden Age and
Hollywood Vintage Series. I believe someone put a list together about
all these reissues at one point and would like to borrow or have that
photo-duplicated for me. The other part is to find someone who has
been working on composers' names for tunes in the Capitol reissue
series.
Has anyone ever assembled master lists for other piano roll companies,
beside the Billings volumes and the Charles Davis Smith volumes on
Ampico, Duo-Art and Welte? This in itself is a very interesting area
to investigate.
During the 1950s Trebor Tichenor assembled lists of rags from different
piano roll companies in his "Ragtime Review" (along with Russ Cassidy).
I recently assembled a guide to ragtime piano music listing pieces in
available folios as well as contemporary rags listed on the internet
with addresses and web sites. Just to let you know, I am willing to
compile any roll lists of other companies and see what we can achieve
together.

[ A few small catalogs of pop music on piano rolls have been placed
[ at the MMD Media site, http://mmd.foxtail.com/MMMedia/ including
[ Fats Waller rolls, Duo-Art AudioGraphic and Supertone. A list of
[ books is also given, including the Billings Rollography of QRS
[ piano rolls. I'd like to have more information about other lists
[ and catalogs. -- Robbie
