Tree Trunk Casting As Music Cylinder
By Julie Zucker

-- non-subscriber, please reply to sender and MMD --

I am currently trying to make a music box out of a bronze cylinder
I made from a plaster cast I took of a California bay tree. So far
it's all going well.

The cylinder came out with all the little music-box-esque bumps that
were on the trunk of the tree and I can't wait to hear what "music"
nature recorded there, but that's where I'm stuck. I need to make
the comb part and I need advice.

I got this address from putting "music box fabrication" into Google
search engine and this posting by Jack Kane came up responding to Larry
Smith, recommending Robin Biggins to help Larry. I would love to have
Robin's phone number or to find out where he is in California, since
that's where I am. And what is MBSI which he recommends joining?
Anyway I would love any help or input.

My cylinder that I made from the tree is about the size of a fat roll
of toilet paper, but the bumps on it are very small. It is also not
perfectly round, being a tree trunk, so I need to spring load the comb
and put it on some kind of sliding track or something to keep the comb
in constant contact with the varying surface of the cylinder.

Anyway, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Julie Zucker
