Hello Philip, indeed, we know Guenther Holzhey very well.
He lives relatively "close by" to us (although I can't recall the name
of the city right now -- it is _not_ Stuttgart, although I think that
he used to live there. If nobody comes up with it I can provide that
information later on. He should be in the member listings of CDD.).
There he has not only his workshop, he even runs a very tiny museum that
not only concentrates on mechanical music, but also on laterna magica.
Not too long ago he did a little tour with a big laterna magica and
a player piano (or was it Vorsetzer?) demonstrating the "magic" of
those days. One feature whereby you can recognize him (e.g., when he
goes to Ruedesheim for the biannual fair) is the old fire-fighter bus
he is driving!
Much more known is his workmanship for restaurations, rather then
building new instruments, especially old (_barrel_) barrel-organs.
Therefore I am wondering whether or not this new organ is also a
(_barrel_) barrel organ?
He is quite a character and -- as far as I would want to use this pun
-- makes his name quite honor "Wood-Shark" ("Holz-Hai"), as he comes
dressed up ready for the work-shop. ;-)
Give him a hammer in his hand and you think he just came walking out
of his shop, just to say hello and heading back to there.
If you do get the chance, do visit him.
greetings by(e) InK - Ingmar Krause
