Update on Waldteufel's Dolores Waltz Project
[ Claudine is the sound designer for a theatrical production in
[ San Francisco. She wrote in 030211 MMDigest that the playwright
[ specified that one of the characters must have a small musical
[ 'mechanism' onstage which plays the Dolores waltz. She said,
[ "The darn playwright didn't know what trouble he was getting us
[ into with his casual yet pivotal suggestion. Such a romantic!"

Thank you again to everyone who provided me with various formats of
'Dolores'; she is opening this weekend at our local theater. After
these months of assembling everything to burn onto a CD, I now know
her as 'doloresLPmix', 'doloresBO' (for band organ), 'doloresLoop'.
I wish you could hear what my son, the engineer, did with the
single-comb Regina version to make her danceable -- it was impossible
to choreograph just one minute. In 4 minutes 26 seconds she morphs
from a tiny little box on the floor of the stage through a fully
resonant Regina to a complete orchestra filling the room and then
back down again; _and_, I'm glad to say, all in the same key! Quite
spectacular! The band organ accompanies the curtain calls.
As always I am saddened that people still only associate the words
'music box' with 'Lara's Theme from Dr. Zhivago' and plastic ballerinas.
