Hi All, The Universal player has plastic pneumatics and plastic tabs
for the sticker rods. Unfortunately, the company used some type of
contact cement to secure the tab to the bellow. Twenty-some-odd years
later, these tabs are falling off.
The problem of securing the tabs back on to the bellows is complicated
by the oils (or oily nature) of the plastic. Having tried six
different adhesives, I found only one that really works. Synthetic
hot melt glue...
Basically, what you have to do is grind off all of the old adhesive
first. I use a Dremel tool with a sander band attachment. Once the
mating surfaces of the tab and bellow are 'fresh and clean', I apply a
liberal amount of hot glue to the bellow and affix the tab.
The only word of caution is that you have to work very fast. You must
place and press the tab in place just as soon as you have applied the
glue.
Having completed this job four times now, I am firmly convinced that
this is the easiest and most trustworthy approach to the problem.
Musically,
