August Bartl was mentioned in the Austrian address books as
a music box maker (in German: Stahlfeder-Spielwerk Fabrikant) in
Vienna, Schmalzhofgasse 16, from 1864 until 1881. After that year
another Bartl (Christian name Edmund) was listed, first as a watch
maker, after 1883 as a music box manufacturer.
Most probably his son, August, has stamped his name on the comb base.
There are no numbers on this bedplate in the works I have seen, because
it was made from cast iron, not brass.
Most of his works (which are scarce) are built in clock bases, but he
also built some works in a wooden box with glass in the lid.
