Hi all, Raymonde Grimmett from the UK sent me the following message:
Sadly, on Wednesday evening, 27th February 2003, the founder of the
Thursford Collection in Norfolk, Mr. George Cushing MBE, passed away
peacefully. Mr. Cushing, age 98 years, had been in poor health for
many years and was confined to a wheelchair. He was the father of
steam preservation in England and was one of the first to import Dutch
& Belgium street organs to England.
Despite his failing health before he died, he would always try to visit
daily his beloved collection of steam/fairground equipment and organs.
He would sit in his wheelchair by the steps of the Percy Cole's
gondolas, listening to the organ music.
The man was unique, and can never be replaced by anyone.
His funeral is scheduled for Friday, 7th March 2003, at 2.30 PM (14.30
hrs), to be held in the Thursford Parish Church. The church has little
or no parking; any cars may be parked at the Thursford Museum.
May he rest in peace!
Regards from the Netherlands,
Hans van Oost, KDV
