I would like to report on a small private museum in one of the most
surprising places.
Doug Mussell, of Santa Maria, CA, has set up a small museum with some
very nice pieces from his personal collection. It's open to the public
with reservations (no problem to arrange a time), and Mr. and Mrs.
Mussell are gracious hosts. There were several pieces on display,
And while I wouldn't call them museum quality, they played up a storm.
To my taste, I'd rather see a working Wurlitzer than one that looks
newer than it did new.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and recommend it to anyone who is
traveling on California's Central Coast. Santa Maria is roughly
one hour north of Santa Barbara, and slightly more than one hour
south of Hearst Castle. I must apologize that I don't have contact
information today, but I'll try to write tomorrow with this info.
Also in the area, on First Street in Solvang, is the Solvang Antique
Center. It's not a museum but an antique store with a large supply
of music boxes for sale (that they will gladly play for you).
