Sparking of Ampico B Spool Drive Motor
By A. B. Bonds

In addition to Craig Brougher's suggestion about the damping resistor,
one of the main reasons for B motor sparking is stuck brushes. The
brush holders are made out of pot metal, which swells and cramps the
brush movement. Make sure your brushes move freely. A little
judicious needle-filing might be in order. Brass replacement brush
holders are available.
