Piano Mover Horror Story
By Ray Cardogno
I had a gorgeous Fetterly Dayton Empire cased piano newly refinished
and waiting to be brought home. The moving company set the delivery
time and was two hours late. I called the refinisher and he said they
left on time over an hour-and-a-half before.
When they finally came they had the piano so well wrapped and protected
nothing could have possibly befell her. They made me pay before they
would take the wrapper off.
After paying and having the movers drive away I noticed they had
re-assembled the piano with 8-penny nails. The piano had fallen on
it's face and probably off the truck somewhere between leaving the
refinisher and getting to my home. Both sides had been torn free and
then spiked back on for the "present and run" that followed.
It's a lot easier to laugh now that it's 15 years in the past.
The moral of the story: Beware of the mover with the best price!
