So, about 10 months ago I decided to build a music box for my girlfriend,
Shelly. It was to play "Yellow", a song by the group "Coldplay", and
also our song. I read an article about "Foreverbox" in MMD, and
decided to use the same method to build a music box movement cylinder
as did A. Thomas Tran. This turned out to be really difficult.
As I thought about it more and more I decided upon an idea for building
the cylinder that I feel is superior, due to the fact that it is easier
and probably will last longer. However, this method requires the use
of heavy machinery.
First, take the cylinder out of any music box movement you buy and
machine a plain metal cylinder the same size as the original. Then
machine holes in the ends, one to fit the gear that was attached to the
original cylinder, one to fit the holding piece that goes at the other
end. Finally, drill holes in the side of the cylinder the size of some
thin music wire.
All that's left now is to use JB weld or crazy glue to secure pieces
of music wire into the holes, then file them down to size.
