Hi all, After a minor computer problem, my Cakewalk Professional 7
required reinstalling from disc. Unfortunately I had no such disc,
having borrowed the program from a very generous fellow MMDer.
(Thanks, Phil)
I had balked at purchasing the expensive Cakewalk Professional because
I use it only for one specific function, a CAL program: unlap31.
Other than that program, which I am forced to utilize because, my
otherwise perfect Powertracks, does not have such a utility, I wouldn't
touch Cakewalk with a ten foot pole.
I have an eleven foot pool near the computer just to use the unlap31.
And believe me, it isn't easy hitting the right keys with that length
of pole, but the exercise has improved my hand-eye co-ordination
tremendously!
Being generally ignorant about Cakewalk programs, I mistakenly
purchased Cakewalk Music Creator program at a discount software site.
As turns out, it does not support CAL programs so is worthless to me.
Fortunately it was not expensive.
I now have a Cakewalk Professional 5 in the pipeline, which I have been
assured by the seller supports CAL programs. Another source says, it
does not, in which case a further free offer may be coming your way at
this site...so stay tuned for updates.
Anyone else out there who has an eleven foot pole and no other music
editing software or who would otherwise find some value in this
Cakewalk program, may have it for the price of mailing it to you --
about $4 priority mail.
Then again, if you have no music editing program, I may doing you a
disservice by introducing you to Cakewalk. It might turn you off to
music editing altogether. Maybe instead you should just get
Powertracks Pro Audio at www.pgmusic.com for $30.
For those who may take offense of my evaluation of Cakewalk, I am the
first to admit I am ignorant of the workings of the program. It may be
the greatest thing since the wheel for all I know. Maybe I have been
spoiled by the ease with which I was able to learn and use my first
music editing program, Powertracks. Compared to it, Cakewalk seemed
unnecessarily complicated, not intuitive, and has a really annoyingly
poor display in staff mode. But then again, it could just be me not
knowing how to operate the program.
First respondent, may have the following with my blessings and regrets:
Cakewalk Music Creator 2002 for windows 98/Me/2000/XP
Included: a CD, an actual 80 page paper manual, and serial number
for initializing the program.
