Greetings, I have two things that may be of interest to this forum.
First, the International Museum of Carousel Art is loaning an exhibit
on "The Carousel" to the Pacific Science Center (PSC) in Seattle,
Washington. It opens around February 3rd, 2003, and will include an
operating antique carousel, as well as a late model Wurlitzer 146b
with the side wings.
The Wurlitzer 146 has the rear doors and lower rear panel replaced with
clear acrylic panels for the exhibit. The front screen has been removed
(temporarily) to make visible the bells and piccolo pipes. It will
play one tune at 15 minute intervals. (More often if they can stand it).
Finally, a practical use for the "coin trip" or "shutoff" perforation!
There will also be numerous carousel animals, as well as interactive
displays, history, etc.
Note: While I would prefer the band organ to play continuously, I don't
think the staff at Pacific Science Center will go for it. Which brings
us to the second item of interest...
