Reading about Harry Garrison reminds me of my meeting with him
at the Coon-Sanders Nighthawks Reunion in Charleston, WVA in 1974.
As I played the piano and sat in with the likes of Spiegle Wilcox
and Bill Rank, what a thrill to meet them also.
Harry promised me two C-90 tapes, all of popular music played on
a Haynes Bros. Ampico. That was my introduction to Lee Sims and
Roy Bargy. I have enjoyed those tapes through the years until last
fall when oxide problems began to plague them.
Dick Baker of Falls Church had started putting his cassettes and
open reel tapes on CDs. Well, to make matters really wonderful, he
had transferred copies of those tapes I had let him borrow years ago.
What a thrill it was to hear the music that Harry had put together for
me in 1972, and enjoy it again. I had to throw the tapes away but
they were replaced in several weeks by CD copies. What a thrill to
drive down the road listening to Bargy, Sims, Carroll and others.
Once more, many thanks to both Harry and Dick for the fine music.

P.S. Bob Pinsker has been scanning a number of Roy Bargy Imperial
rolls and has put together a wonderful CD of the popular songs Bargy
recorded so long ago. Some of the arrangements are outstanding,
.e.g., "My Baby's Arms."
