Plans for Steam Calliope by Conrad Milster
By John Haskey

The current issue of Live Steam magazine (Jan./Feb. '03) has an
article describing a steam calliope built by Conrad Milster. It is
the first in a series and includes dimensions for the whistles he built
(he rolled his own tubing from copper). It appears that the instrument
is played via a keyboard on an umbilical which contains electric wiring
for solenoid control. This will likely be covered in a future article.

[ Conrad Milster is Chief Engineer of the power plant at Pratt
[ Institute in Brooklyn, NY, which still operates three 19th century
[ reciprocating steam engines that spin the dynamos. -- Robbie
