[ Ref. 021215 MMD, "Philipps Ducanola in Brisbane" ]
Dear Jocelyn and David Mirams, Niendorf is not the name of the place
but of the founder/owners of the company that was located in the city
of Luckenwalde in Brandenburg (state), about 50 miles southwest of
Berlin.
The company was founded in 1896 by Carl Niendorf who managed the
company together with his brother; the company was called "Gebrueder
(or abbreviated Gebr.) Niendorf = Niendorf Bros. They made very fine
pianos that were and are highly appreciated.
The major part of their piano production went into export, especially
overseas. During the world depression the company went bankrupt
(1930), the pianos are still searched today because of the high quality
and the very fine sound.
Kind regards,
Gerhard Dangel
