Excess of Player Pianos in UK
By Stephen Simpson

Well, I am surprised at the replies to my query, both direct and in
the forum. I am not looking for something for nothing, and both as an
organ builder and repairer myself, I can understand the cost involved
in restoration.

However, from the original reason for my query, if there is an excess,
then there is the suggestion that supply is greater than demand and as
such, prices perhaps are greater than the market can sustain at present.

What I was seeking is an ordinary, household player piano, 88 note,
pedal operated and in reasonable working order. One to play and not
just to look at. So I don't require top notch restoration services,
extensive repolishing or suchlike, just an ordinary player piano.

So far I have been offered player pianos from UK pounds 400 to 2000,
and I am sure that each and every one of them are worth the price, as
the more expensive ones will be better quality piano and players and
better restorations, no doubt. The cheaper ones I appreciate will be
less desirable to the collectors and enthusiasts.

So thanks to all who have taken the time and trouble to reply, I am
much better informed than before and perhaps will be making a decision
in a few weeks, based on the good advice of the MMD subscribers.

Once again, thank you all.

Best wishes for the Christmas season

Stephen Simpson
