Marion Rous and her lone roll
The classical radio station in Cleveland, Ohio, WCLV, broadcasts a
two-hour program on Sunday mornings (on our "sister" station 1420 AM)
called "The Irish Hour", captained by a vastly-experienced host named
Jerry Quinn. We refer to him as "The Mighty Quinn."
I asked the "great guru" of the Duo-Art, London-based Gerald Stonehill,
whose unmatched collection and "robot" formed the basis for the 19 CD's
released by NIMBUS, about a piece called "In an Irish Jaunting Car".
He knew of it, of course, and stated that it was the only roll ever
made by this "it" girl (his phrase...based on the picture and puffery
of the original issue). Alas he owns it not. I am seeking a cassette
recording of the piece to augment this ethnic offering.
"Mine host" brought a recording of "Irish Jaunting Car" by one Peter
Hope, in the belief that that was what came to mind, but it turns out
that this piece is really by one Whitfield. When I spoke of him, he
stated that he believed he knew of same, but doubted he had a recording
of it.
What I am asking is: would whoever owns it contact me at <apetrak@wclv.com>
to advise ownership and willingness to make an acceptable recording of it
on cassette or DAT?
Hoping one of you can assist and looking forward to a favorable reply.
All best,
Albert M. Petrak
