Packard Piano Stringing Scale
By Jon Page

[ Charles Davis asked in 021118 MMDigest: }

> I would like to get the restringing scale for a Bond/Packard upright
> piano serial number 26593 (circa 1923). It has Scale 22 written on
> the plate.

From John Travis' book, "A guide to Restringing":
Packard Upright # 109067

 13 5
 13.5 4
 14 5
 14.5 4
 15 6
 15.5 4
 16 6
 16.5 6
 17 6
 17.5 4
 18 4
 19 2
 20 2
 21 2

However, if you really want to make the best of it, have the piano
rescaled by Danny at GC Piano.

Make a pattern of the wrapped strings. Be certain to index the strings
on the pattern if there are no agraffes or pin terminations, make two
patterns (for insurance and string relocation). Measure first and last
speaking lengths of single and bichords for pattern verification.
Don't forget any wrapped on the tenor bridge.

Measure all plain wire speaking lengths.

Send the pattern and measurements to:

  GC Piano
  128 Sinnott Rd, Unit 19
  Scarborough, Ontario M1L 4N2
  Canada
  tel.: 416-755-7109

I would advise calling first.

Regards,

Jon Page, piano technician
Harwich Port, Cape Cod, Mass.
