The widow of well known UK restorer and collector, the late Norman
Evans, has decided to part with his impressive Kranich & Bach Telektra
Grand. The piano is approximately 6 feet long and has an attractive
Queen Anne style case which has been fully re-polished to a high
standard.
Norman restored this instrument from the ground up, including
re-stringing and re-gilding the frame. He also carried out extensive
work on the piano action and solenoid mechanism. Those who were
privileged to know Norman and his work will agree that he was a
restorer of the highest skill and integrity. He would go to enormous
lengths to conserve originality and this superb instrument is a
testament to his expertise.
The piano has several brass rolls, including some hand played. There
are also a few of the less successful paper rolls which were briefly
produced during WW1 when brass was in short supply. Also on offer,
either with the above piano or separately, is a complete Tel-Electric
mechanism and rolls.
I'll be visiting this piano in a few days time in order to examine
it in detail and take photographs. If anyone who might be interested
would care to contact me directly at <bonzo@globalnet.co.uk> and tell
me exactly what I should look for, I'll be pleased to do so and report
back. I have no personal interest in the sale.
