Christie's Mechanical Music Auction 30 October 2002

Dear MMD members,  The next Christie's sale takes place on 30 October
2001 (_not_ the 31st as advertised) at 12 noon.  Viewing is from the
Sunday 27th through to 11 AM on the morning of the sale.  Approximately
170 lots, including:

* Two exceptional early changeable key-wind cylinder boxes --
Overture / two-per-turn forte-piano movement by Moulinie Aine.
  Lecoultre part-overture mandolin box with five three-air cylinders.

* Forty-two key Gavioli portable barrel organ.

* Waldkirch street barrel organ by Wilhelm Bruder.

* Mills Violano Virtuoso.

* Wurlitzer 1015 jukebox and other coin-op machines.

* Important Baird archive of unpublished plans for aerial-to-ground
  TV equipment during the Second World War.

Two rare magician automata:

* Phalibois monkey with dice, and

* a Roullet et Decamps clown with rings used as a prop in 1972 film
  "Sleuth" with Michael Caine and Lawrence Olivier.

* Other fine automata by Phalibois, Bontems, Vichy, Lambert etc.
