Unknown Monkey Organ from Lodz, Poland
By Marty Roenigk

We (Mechantiques) have bought four antique monkey organs in the past
month or so, one of which has us quite confused because we have never
run across the name before. It might just be the name of an operator,
or a private label, but it does seem to be marquetry. The lettering
on the front of the organ says:

  Angelo Bassi; Lodz, 12 Nowo-Lagiewnicka.12; Melodi-Pan

Has anybody heard of this person as a manufacturer before?

Martin Roenigk
Eureka Springs, Arkansas

 [ A list at http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/Lodz/streets-index2.htm
[ says that Nowo-Lagiewnicka was a street name in Lodz, Poland, circa
 [ 1913. -- Robbie
