Dear subscribers, I came home from a two days out of town to discover
my <webmaster> mailbox was full of messages expressing concern that
they could not access the MMD web site.
As Robbie correctly reported to many of these people, we are in the
process of moving the MMD files to a new computer. We have completed
most of the transition, but many of the locations on the Internet are
still accessing the old machine. That machine, for reasons that we
don't completely understand yet, has decided that it doesn't want to be
'bothered' anymore and has generated some very weird messages to users
accessing the site (something about a "bad virtual host configuration").
We have that bad configuration corrected and the MMD web site is now
accessible regardless of whether the old or new site is accessed.
Later tonight I will get the MMD Archives synchronized so that both
machines have the latest Archives on them. We're a bit behind right
now.
In closing, I must say that its encouraging to see that many people are
accessing the MMD via the web site and that they care enough to write to
us when its not right. Thanks to everyone for there interest in the
MMD!

[ The old computer operated flawlessly, continuously, for over three
[ years before mysterious failures started occurring earlier this year.
[ Since tax law allows business computers to be amortized over three
[ years, we decided it was time for a new one! The new operating
[ system is Linux, and the latest versions of server software have
[ been purchased and installed (for strengthened security against
[ server attacks). We also arranged for an Internet connection of
[ greater bandwidth; folks with high-speed connections will hopefully
[ notice the difference. :-) -- Robbie
