Hello Everyone! Well, you will be pleased to know that everything is
running on time regarding the completion of the Salzburg Stier barrel
organ which is located high above the old city of Salzburg in the
mighty fortress known as Hohensalzburg.
At present all of the work at the fortress is nearing completion.
The newly constructed pumps, which are exactly as they were in 1502,
are once again in place just waiting for prisoners to begin their task
of pumping the bellows by hand or foot to fill the organs reservoir.
Dr Haspels and his team are completing the wonderful new pinned barrel
which will be fitted into the Stier in the next few weeks. An email
I received recently from Dr Haspels reads:
"I am happy to inform you all that the restoration of the cylinder
organ part of the Salzburg Bull is going well and according to plan.
The new cylinder with the Mozart/Eberling programme will, of course,
play its twelve pieces at the festive Salzburg event on October 26.
Looking forward to meeting many of you on the Hohensalzburg in one
months' time,
Dr Jan Jaap Haspels
Nationaal Museum van Speelklok tot Pierement,
Utrecht, Netherlands."
I also want to thank all of the people who became sponsors of the
Salzburg Stier. There is still time for _you_ to also become a
sponsor, Think of the fun you, or your family will have to see your
name on the wall beside the Stier or in the book of honor for everyone
to see for the years ahead in the castle.
Another great item is that Linda Hardiman of Glajd UK Ltd is planning
a trip to Salzburg for the celebration on Oct. 26. This trip will
start from England on October 21, 2002. For our American friends and
newcomers to Europe, Linda has set out a real special deal that is
impossible to beat. You fly into Heathrow and check into the
Renaissance Hotel where Linda will meet you after a great nights sleep.
You board her coach to take you on a trip across Europe stopping at
very interesting sights, many of interest to us in automatic music.
Lots of time is planned around Salzburg to see the many sites and, of
course, welcome the Salzburg Stier back to its 500 year home. Special
events are planned for Oct. 26th. The tour returns to England on the
29th of October. All of the many details are on the Stier web site or
please call me or email Linda directly at <tours@glajd.co.uk>.
The Salzburg Stier web site is at http://www.salzstier.com/ and is in
English and German, as well as a great article in French by Philippe
Rouille. Please email me directly for any questions you may have
regarding the Stier Fest on October 26, 2002.
See you in Salzburg!
