If anybody is interested, I've sent my two estimates and the images of
the damage to the seller and haven't heard a word from him yet. It was
sent early Thursday so he's had two full business days to reply.
Any way, I had another question about another piece I bought earlier.
I know that all of the articles I've read/seen thus far have been related
to the more beautiful, antique mechanical instruments (including
cylinder music boxes like mine). I'm trying to figure out how to find
some information about a simpler, more recent box. This is just an
eighteen-note movement but I was attracted to the "uniqueness" of the
casing.
I don't believe it's very old. It's a metal "Rolls Royce" bar set. It
has a sticker on the bottom saying "Made in Japan". Based on the overall
size and thickness of the metal, it must be sometime before the 1960's
but I would like to have some more info about it if I can.
Would I be able to get this information from the book "The Musical Box"
by Ord-Hume? I've ordered that but don't expect it for a few weeks yet.
If not, and no one can help me here, where might I try looking? I've
tried several searches on "Music Box" and "Bar Set", etc., but nothing
seems to be coming anywhere close to what I need to research this box.
I don't expect it to be too collectible or worth much, but still would
like to know some history about it.
