I have just finished doing what someone else should have done when they
"restored" an Ampico, probably about 15 years ago: restore the valves
-- both sets! The exposed leather was dust, and the pouches were so
rotten they were torn. The pneumatics are covered with bright yellow
rubber coated cloth. What _is_ that stuff?
Anyway, now comes the installation. The piano is on its legs. The
stack is the early one with push rods that have no guide rail attached;
it stayed in the piano.
What is the easiest way to reinstall the stack? Should I remove the
piano action and see if the guide rail can be removed and then
installed after the stack is up?
Thanks!
Berley Firmin
