Like Bill Chapman, I had a similar experience with a refrigerator that
been shut down with food left in it. The smell was enough to gag a
maggot; otherwise strong men would fall in their tracks, overcome by
the stench, if they dared open the door.
The box was washed with hot soapy water, and repeatedly sprayed
throughout with Lysol spray, which reduced the odor but came nowhere
near to eliminating it.
The box was left open to air out. It took about a month, but finally
all trace of the odor vanished. The box is still in use to this day.
So Andy, keep airing out your organ; time and oxygen will eventually
neutralize the remaining odor.
