Grand Pianos in Oak Cases
By James Jelinek
I have a customer who owns a small Marshall & Wendell Ampico grand.
The odd thing to me is that the case was done in quarter-sawn oak
veneers instead of the usual mahogany or walnut. Has anyone seen any
other instruments in grand cases using oak? The only other one I ever
saw was a Gulbransen grand that was custom built for a family member
back in the twenties. I'd like to hear from the readers about this
oddity.
