APSCO had a huge selection of tools and supplies, and they had
important things that others didn't. There were items (such as player
materials, tuning hammers) where lack of quality was a real problem.
With new hammers, when it came to selection, boring and tapering the
accuracy usually was not good. Whenever I got bad quality stuff I had
to eat it. I found it impossible to get credit because of poor quality
products and workmanship.
APSCO also had the lowest prices overall that I knew of. There was an
additional 5% discount for early payment. My orders were shipped out
in a timely manner.
When I first tried to get an account, they said that my business card,
my Piano Technicians Guild card, and the fact that my father had an
account in excellent standing was not enough. I had to use my father's
account for a while. That to me was strange. I eventually learned
what to buy, what not to buy, and how to work with them. They became
a very big asset to me and, all and all, I'm going to miss them.
