Roller Organ Label Colors
By Todd Augsburger

Walter, It is definite that the yellow and buff labels are not
"faded" -- they are original colors. In fact, they are of more recent
manufacture than the red. (I've since replaced the camera with which
the samples were photographed; there's no hint of red in the actual
labels.)

As far as restoration is concerned, it is probably not that important
which label color is used, since almost any title _could_ have been
produced at either an early or late date, with either color labels.
And the Autophone Co. was inconsistent, even mixing colors on the
same roller. The only exception might be that some very late titles
might have been produced only with late buff colored labels.

But my _opinion_ is that you should go with the average: If replacing
labels on a roller which was a very late tune, or found in a group with
buff labels, use buff; if found in a group with red labels, use red.
If unknown, use red, since it's by far the predominate color.

I do have materials to produce either style of individual labels, if
you like. See http://www.rollerorgans.com/Roller_Organ_Accessories.htm

Thanks,
Todd Augsburger
