Greetings, I am writing to inquire if you may have information,
particularly leads to a portable, hand-cranked barrel organ of circa
1830 or before, not a replica.
I am working with Marsha Rooney, the History Curator at the Northwest
Museum of Arts and Culture in Spokane, WA, on our upcoming David
Thompson Exhibit, 2004. We are immersed in the artifact collection
process, trying to locate a few of the larger items we would like to
display.
Although, David Thompson was primarily an explorer/cartographer, he was
also a unique man of many interests including music. In his journals,
he mentions having to fix a portable barrel organ that accidentally
fell and dashed on the rocks. As part of presenting Thompson's
multi-dimensional persona, we are diligently seeking specific, unique
items such as the barrel organ, to the end of procuring them as a loan
for the exhibit.
Certainly, any leads you may offer will be greatly appreciated. Contact
information follows.
