The great posting about Deagan Tubular chimes made me go ahead and put
up the page on the restoration of the units we recently restored in our
shop. Tony Pignaloni, an MMD subscriber, was here and did the work.
As you may know he is an expert on antique electrical trolley motors
and systems.
These were only 4 Deagan chimes that hung in the balcony of a church
here in St. Louis. The chimes are not presently shown but I will try
to get a picture of them in place soon. The chimes are so incredibly
dirty that we did not clean them yet. We will try to get the church to
pay for taking them to my plater and have him clean them up. They have
a far more tenacious tarnishing of the brass and they seem to be
plated, and not solid brass, as expected. I believe they run on organ
current. I haven't found another power source. They play from the
organ keyboard.
Oh, my alma mater, Baylor University in Waco, Texas, has a set of
Deagan Class A Tower Chimes that were originally in Pat Neff Hall,
installed around 1946. When I went to school there they really needed
work, but I could not get them to let me fix them. They were replaced
in the tower with a Belgian(?) carillon a few years ago. They said the
chimes are in storage for another location someday.
