"The Organette Book" by Kevin McElhone
By Paul Bellamy
I saw Todd Augsburger's plea in MMD that we address the wider issues
of mechanical music, including the much neglected and underrated
organettes. My response sounds like a commercial plug but it is not.
We in the MBSGB made the decision to bring to light this underrated and
neglected area of mechanical music and made it our 40th anniversary
project. After years of work, we produced the Organette Book based on
the knowledge of Kevin McElhone and the contributing experts he
solicited towards this important project.
We have received testimonials from all over the world to the effect
that this will be the definitive work for many years to come. Yet the
sales have been disappointing. Why? Is 50 UK pounds too much to spend
in order to get a reference work of a limited edition of 600 books?
Please look to those who have bought the book and support the years of
research that have gone into this unique publication. MBSGB committed
16,000 UKP towards this venture for both the benefit of its members and
the wider audience of sister societies. Was it worth the effort?
Paul Bellamy.
