MIDI Control For Harmonium
By Nigel Perry

I've rescued a lovely Packard Harmonium (it is now) from the bonfire.

Having restored it to its former glory, I'd like to very discretely
fit a bank of small solenoids under the keys and play fairground-type
music on it via a MIDI circuit board and a disc drive. Yes, I know
it's probably sacrilegious, but I would hope to hide all the electronics
and still be able to play the machine normally. My knowledge of
electronics is limited and I'm hoping that someone out there who
can help.

There are 61 keys. I have found a source of solenoids. But for the
pull of 6 ounces force that's needed, the ones I have in mind may be
too small.

I could also make a unit to play a xylophone and drums. The stops
could be actuated electronically as well. An electronics box that
would play an orchestrion would be one idea.

Any ideas (polite ones) would be much appreciated.

Best wishes

Nigel Perry
