Seek Reproducing Piano Rolls by Paul Eisler
By Albert Petrak

I received the following message from one Peter Eisler who is trying to
locate rolls made by his pianist/conductor grandfather, to wit:

  Dear Mr. Petrak:

My name is Peter Eisler and I came across the RPRF web site while
searching for recordings featuring my grandfather, Paul Eisler, who was
a pianist and conductor at The Metropolitan Opera. In addition to a
dozen or so recordings, his playing also is captured on two piano
rolls. They are:

  Duo-Art 5633 Wagner-Liszt: Isolde's Love Death from Opera
"Tristan und Isolde", played by Paul Eisler
Ampico 6336 Gounod: Potpourri of Arias from the Opera
"Romeo et Juliette", played by Paul Eisler

I have the "Tristan und Isolde" roll, which is wonderful, and
I'd be happy to share it if the foundation would be interested in
preserving a digital copy. I'm willing to ship it at my expense if
you're interested.

I'm also very eager to find a copy of the "Romeo et Juliette" roll.
I didn't know it existed until I saw it while searching the catalogues
you've assembled on your site (What a great resource!). I'm wondering
whether you have any suggestions for where I might obtain a copy,
whether it be the original roll or a digital copy.

My grandfather was an assistant conductor and concert pianist at the
Met for several decades, beginning sometime around 1915. He toured
frequently as an accompanist for Caruso and many other Met stars,
taught at the Met's opera school and coached many of the company's
singers. I'd be happy to provide more information on him if you're
interested.

I'd be grateful for any help you can provide in my search for the
"Romeo et Juliette" roll. And, of course, if you're interested in the
"Tristan und Isolde" roll, which is a fun piece, just let me know how
and where you would like me to ship it.

  Best wishes, Peter.

I replied suggesting that the roll should be not too difficult to
locate. Anyone having a duplicate, willing to sell, should contact
him directly. Hope someone can help.
