There have been many announcements for organ rallies or similar
events in the MMD recently. It's great that people are providing
these announcements; it enables interested persons to learn about
rallies which they might not be aware of otherwise.
However, I've noticed that organ rallies in different parts of
the country seem to be on the same weekend, or consecutive weekends.
Those who attend rallies on a regular basis know that travel is part
of the game. But, should people have to choose between two or three
events due to overlapping scheduling, or drive hundreds of miles
towing a trailer to the next rally?
I've also noticed that some rallies are well-promoted while others
are barely mentioned. Some rallies are sponsored by MBSI, AMICA,
COAA or other organizations, while others are independent or have
multiple affiliations.
There is also a problem with the timing of announcements. Some
rallies get announced just a few days before they take place. That
doesn't allow much planning time for people who really want to go.
My question is: Is there anyone coordinating a calendar for all
the organ rallies and other events? MMD would be the ideal place
for such a calendar but Jody and Robbie already have enough to do
with editing and keeping the mailing list up-to-date. (Sorry, I'm
not volunteering either).
My purpose in bringing up the subject is that it would be wonderful
to have as many organs and as many attendees at these rallies as
possible. It would do a lot to promote mechanical music. As it
stands now, there seems to be little, if any, coordination of these
events.
Comments, anyone?
