Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, California
By Tom DeLay

I was recently at the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, California. Of course,
in one incarnation or another, the muffled Ruth Band Organ is still
playing behind a glass wall in the carousel area.

What was more interesting were the historic photos of the Boardwalk
Arcade. There was a rather typical Welte "sunburst" orchestrion
installed in the Arcade. The orchestrion lasted but two years and was
destroyed in a fire circa 1906. In the photo, the orchestrion
resembled greatly the instrument still in the Zaharakos (spelling?)
Ice Cream Parlor in Columbus, Indiana (which we saw and played last
summer).
