I've bought a Sir Herbert Marshall & Rose piano with a Wilcox and
White 88-note Angelus Melodant mechanism; it requires restoration.
The serial number of the mechanism appears to be 46613. I am
interested to learn all I can about this type of mechanism.
One thing I notice is that (unlike my other player piano) it
apparently has no automatic tracking mechanism. Is this thought to be
a bad thing (that it has none)? What is the likely reason for this, is
it that it is an early model, or is it a cheaper mechanism? I
understand that Marshall & Rose is quite a good make of piano, so I
would expect the former rather than the latter?
The piano serial number appears to be either 2031 (stamped on the
piano in numerous places) or 1528 (printed on the soundboard). Does
anyone have a copy of the Piano Atlas or similar and could date the
piano from this information?
