Dear Mr. McElhone, Last month I purchased a rather neglected but
mechanically perfect Mira duplex comb disc musical box at a local
auction. The disc size is 9-5/16 inch (23.7 cm). All the books
mention 9-1/2 inch (24.1 cm), but accurate measuring reveals that
9-5/16 inch is the correct size.
With the box came seven discs, rather rusty and discoloured but
luckily with nearly all the projections well in place.
The discs are really worth restoring but this will mean that the
original lettering will get lost. It will not be a great loss as
most of it is rather faint or damaged. I can replace titles with
pressure-sensitive lettering. (By the way, this is harder and harder
to obtain due to the computer and printer era.)
Three discs are beyond doubt:
1. 22 Ziehrer/Flower Polka/Polka des Fleurs/Blumen Polka
2. 107 R de l'Isle/La Marseillaise
3. 1352 Der Graf von Luxembourg/Walzer/F Lehar
Of two discs I am not sure of the number:
4. ..31 Millocker/Gasparone/March
5. ..68 Gillet/Loin du bal/Fern vom Balle/Valse/Walzer
Of the next two discs the number is correct but the title is nearly
illegible and what I can read makes no sense:
6. 1198 Biaty Mazur/(?)/Osman-kirgo/(?)
7. 1273 Scott.../(?)/Rol.. ti.. Tonk.../(?)/Two Step
I wonder if you have a list for Mira discs (of this size) and if so,
you would do me a great favour if you can tell me the right numbers
for discs 4 and 5 and the right titles for discs 6 and 7.
I hope that you are able to answer me and I am looking forward to
your reaction.
Yours,
Antoine Stroucken
